TSDR for status of trademark applications and registrations

The Trademark Status Document Retrieval (TSDR) is a website provided by the United States Patent and Trademark Office, giving access to the status of: U.S. Trademark Applications and U.S. Trademark Registrations.

Ways to view trademark applications and registrations in TSDR

Trademark applications and trademark registrations can be accessed in TSDR in two ways:

The first way is: to access the trademark application or registration in TSDR with a Serial Number or Registration Number. The Serial Number or Registration Number can be found by searching TESS if the number is unknown.

The second way is: to access the trademark application or registration in TSDR is by finding the mark in TESS opening the record file and then clicking on the TSDR button within the record file.

Sections of information in TSDR

A trademark application in TSDR will have two tabs or sections of information which are: 1) Status and 2) Documents.

A trademark registration in TSDR will have three tabs or sections of information which are: 1) Status, 2) Documents and 3) Maintenance.

The Status tab holds information regarding the application including: application filing date, mark information, goods and services information, and owner information.

The Documents tab includes a listing of the documents and correspondence that are part of the application process, such as the application documents, office actions, responses, specimens of use, and maintenance documents. These items are listed in chronological order, with the earliest documents on the bottom and the most recent on the top.

This Maintenance tab states when maintenance documents and fees are due.

What are examples of documents to view for the status of TM applications and registrations in TSDR

The Documents tab includes a listing of the documents and correspondence that are part of the application process.

Below is a sampling of the types of documents that may be included in this section.

TEAS Plus of Standard New Application

Specimen – a visual sampling (photo/picture) of the trademark/service mark in use.

Drawing – the illustration, diagram, or picture of the mark.

Change of Address or Representation Form – data as entered for change of address or change in representation (for the applicant or Attorney).

XSearch Summary – a listing of the searches and the results found by a USPTO examiner when doing a clearance search.

Examiners Amendment – correspondence indicating amendments made on an applicant’s trademark application by the Trademark Examiner.

Office Action Outgoing – a notification that summarizes issues that an applicant must address in order to proceed with the application process.

Response to Office Action – an applicant's response to a Office Action.

Abandonment Notice – notification to an applicant that the application has been abandoned

Notice of Publication – a written notice from the USPTO that an applicant’s trademark will be published online for opposition in the Trademark Official Gazette (TMOG), the date it will be published, and a weblink to view the mark in TMOG.

OG Publication Confirmation – correspondence confirming the publication of the trademark in TMOG.

Registration Certificate – formal correspondence and official USPTO certificate of a registered application.

Courtesy E-Reminder of Sec. 8 (6-yr) – email notification reminder to file the Trademark Registration Document “Declaration of Use and/or Excusable Nonuse Under Section 8” in a stipulated time frame.
